The possibility of negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be considered after the North Korean leader arrives in Beijing on the evening of September 2. This was reported to TASS by the head of state's press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
Bloomberg wrote on August 28 that Kim Jong-un would visit China to attend a military parade on September 3. The agency noted that such foreign trips by the North Korean leader are rare and that the current one would take place surrounded by other world leaders.
On August 29, it became known that the DPRK economy is showing growth amid expanding cooperation with Russia. According to the Bank of Korea, the country's GDP will increase by 3.1% in 2024 after falling by 0.2% the year before. This was the best result since 2016, when growth was 3.9%. The bank explained that the positive dynamics are due to the growth of production, construction and mining, which was facilitated by domestic projects and the intensification of economic ties with Russia.
On June 19, 2024, Putin and Kim Jong-un signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, which came into effect on December 4. The Russian president emphasized that the document lays the foundation for long-term cooperation between the two countries.
