Emmanuel Macron asked Lecornu to"consult with the political forces represented in Parliament in order to adopt a budget for the nation and conclude the agreements necessary to take decisions in the coming months."
"The president is convinced that an agreement between the political forces is possible, while respecting the convictions of each party," the Elysée Palace said in a statement.
Sebastien Lecornu is a 39-year-old politician who has served as Minister of Defense since May 2022, having served in the last four governments. He belongs to Macron's Regeneration party. The prime minister-designate will now have to assemble a government and then receive a vote of confidence from Parliament.
