The three national telecommunications operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange Morocco and Inwi, announced the official launch of the fifth generation (5G) network in the Kingdom starting from Friday, in an important step that reflects a significant shift in the path of digitalization.
This advanced technology offers connection speeds exceeding 2 gigabytes per second, with initial coverage limited to major cities and gradual expansion to other regions. Smartphones, communication devices, and SIM cards compatible with 5G will automatically transition to the new network, and operators have launched updated offers to support this technology.
Maroc Telecom explained to its customers, via text messages and its digital platforms, the official start of the “5G” service, confirming the readiness of its network to receive new users, while Orange Morocco announced that about one hundred Moroccan cities have been covered since the first day, with the scope to gradually expand to include various parts of the Kingdom.
For its part, Inwi announced that the service is now available in major cities immediately and without any additional charges, highlighting that its current cards are fully compatible with 5G technology, and there is no need to change the offer or the SIM card.
The telecommunications company also explained in a statement that all its customers who have smartphones compatible with the “fifth generation” network, and who are located within the coverage areas, can directly benefit from this new experience that provides high speed and stability in communication.
This development comes after the government council, which met in Rabat earlier, approved the legal texts regulating the “fifth generation” licenses granted to the three companies, thus paving the way for the official commercial launch of this technology.
The operators offered a variety of packages catering to individual and corporate customers, with both prepaid and postpaid plans, and varying data allowances to suit all uses. For homes, Inwi introduced the 5G i-Box, which provides fast and secure home internet, ideal for online gaming, remote work, and high-definition streaming.
Regarding the business sector, the same company, “inwi Business,” launched new services based on “fifth generation,” which contribute to enhancing the smart industry 4.0, through solutions such as remote maintenance, connected machines, and digital twins, while the applications also include telemedicine services thanks to the “5G Business Connect” device.
For its part, Orange Morocco confirmed that the 5G network will revolutionize daily uses, whether for watching content in high definition, holding video meetings, or benefiting from interactive education and smart medicine. It also considered that this new technology will give Moroccan companies greater ability to innovate, collaborate in real time, and remotely control industrial processes, which enhances their competitiveness locally and internationally.
Orange stressed that access to 5G only requires a phone compatible with the new network, noting that it is keeping pace with this transitional phase with flexible and customized offers to meet the needs of both individual customers and businesses.
