Amnesty International warned as early as September 5: if Israel did not immediately halt its large-scale assault on Gaza City and its plan to displace hundreds of thousands of people, and if no one in the international community applied pressure to do so, the already unbearable level of suffering of the Palestinian population, faced with the deliberate campaign of starvation and genocide, would have catastrophic and irreversible consequences.

And so it is and will be, in contempt of every norm of international law and in total disregard for human life.

In Gaza City people are dying under the bombing because they no longer know where to go, because people who are hungry, injured, sick or disabled cannot face yet another forced transfer.

In recent days, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) declared that a mass evacuation from Gaza City in accordance with international humanitarian law was impossible under the current conditions. Most Palestinians have already been displaced several times and live in dilapidated, overcrowded makeshift camps, deprived of basic necessities. Many have nowhere safe to go or are unable to move due to malnutrition, illness, injury, or disability.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, as of August 27, more than 86 percent of the Gaza Strip was either within the Israeli-controlled zone or under evacuation orders. The Israeli army ordered Palestinians to move to the al-Mawasi area in the southern Gaza Strip, which has already been attacked by Israeli forces. The United Nations stated that the area is not equipped to accommodate people due to lack of water, overcrowded tents, and lack of medical care, reflecting Israel's decimation of the health system.

So, once again, the world stands by and watches as Israel continues to defy the most basic principles of humanity. All this while the United Nations General Assembly is preparing to convene on September 18, helpless in the face of a historic turning point: the shift from the concept of human rights to that of the right of the strongest.
