The Ministry of Health identified the doctor accused of using smart glasses to record the medical residency exam based on a detailed analysis of photos taken during the test.
The investigation arose after an anomaly was detected in the results, with unusually high scores for some applicants. This led to the hypothesis of possible organized fraud.
Exam footage, in which a candidate wearing smart glasses recorded the test, was crucial in unraveling the fraud. According to the footage, both the printed exam and the grid for answering the 100 multiple-choice questions were visible.
The applicants were organized by specialty, in alphabetical order, and the video revealed that the defendant was enrolled in the anesthesiology specialty, so he should have been seated in the front rows of the room.
The Ministry of Health also analyzed a series of photographs taken during the four-hour exam, which made it possible to compare the data obtained in the video with the applicants' locations. Thanks to this comparison, the Ecuadorian doctor was identified, and this week he was criminally charged with fraud against public administration.
This Thursday, the doctor appeared for his exam renewal, making no statements upon entering or leaving the facility.
