Hamas responded positively to the new ceasefire proposal with Israel in the Gaza Strip, which it received earlier today from Egyptian and Qatari mediators, a senior member of the Palestinian terrorist organization told AFP.
Hamas delivered its response to the mediators and confirmed that it and the other organizations accepted the new ceasefire proposal, without requesting any modifications, said the official, who asked not to be named.
This text reiterates the basic terms of a previous American proposal which provided for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and the release in two stages of Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas during its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The proposal is based on that of the American envoy
Earlier, a Palestinian official who wished to remain anonymous clarified that the proposal is based on that of US envoy Steve Witkoff, which provides for a 60-day ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in two stages.
The proposal is a framework agreement to begin negotiations for a permanent ceasefire, he noted, adding that the proposal will be examined by the Hamas leadership with the heads of other allied terrorist organizations.
Hamas announced last week that a high-ranking delegation was in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials regarding efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the war in the Gaza Strip, after more than 22 months.
Egypt, Qatar and the US are mediating between Israel and Hamas, but no progress has been made in the talks after a first, brief ceasefire at the beginning of the year.
