President Gustavo Petro and his government are considered by the public to be the big losers of Wednesday's voting in the Senate: Carlos Camargo, with 62 votes, became the new magistrate of the Constitutional Court. The head of state spoke from abroad about the result. Through his X account, he acknowledged that his candidate was María Patricia Balanta, who only received 41 votes and received multiple criticisms for that"approval" from the Casa de Nariño: "We simply lean towards the most decent person. Who can do justice and guarantee the rights of the people, without penalty."
Gustavo Petro did not hold back his reservations about the position taken by the Congress of the Republic on September 3: "They excluded the woman and the black woman under the pretext that she was mine and the Court was taking me. Dirty liars. I have never known Mrs. Balanta until three days ago," the tweet reads.
The head of state's interpretation is that, by selecting Carlos Camargo for the Court, the Senate decided not to move the country forward, but rather to push it backward from abuse:"Do you remember that in the midst of crimes against young people, the Ombudsman even raised his voice?" he questioned.
The president's statement is that the aim is to return justice to the duquismo regime, the cartel of the toga, and the corrupt clientelism that would nullify its independence:"We will never tolerate such felony and cowardice. Anyone elected through corrupt methods is corrupt. A judge who uses corrupt means is corrupt."
