US President Donal Trump has confirmed in a live interview on Fox News that the alleged perpetrator of the fatal shooting of Republican influencer Charlie Kirk has been arrested. The suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, according to NBC, is a 22-year-old man born in Utah, according to police sources, according to US media.

Trump briefly explained that it was apparently the father himself and people"very close" to the alleged shooter who asked for him to turn himself in to the authorities after law enforcement agencies released several images and a video showing a white man wearing dark pants, a sweatshirt and cap, and wearing sunglasses.

The suspect in the shooting that left the commentator dead is in custody of Utah law enforcement, a source familiar with the operation said Friday, confirming Trump's announcement to the television network.

According to authorities, more than 7,000 tips and testimonies have been received, and more than 200 people have been interviewed. Authorities have not yet publicly released the name of the suspect or cited a motive for the killing, the latest act of political violence to shock the United States.

A single, accurate shot to the neck killed 31-year-old Charlie Kirk, a radical right-wing activist close to President Donald Trump, on Wednesday. The murder took place at Utah Valley University, as Kirk was giving an outdoor talk to more than 3,000 people.

A bolt-action .30-caliber Mauser rifle was found on a towel in the woods. A spent cartridge was recovered from the chamber, and three more rounds were loaded in the magazine, according to information circulated among law enforcement officials and reported to The Associated Press.
