Investigation Details

During an event at Utah Valley University, Charlie Kirk , 31, killed in front of the audience.

On Tuesday evening, prosecutor Jeff Gray announced the indictment against suspected shooter Tyler Robinson. It includes murder and weapons offenses.

– Charlie Kirk was murdered while exercising one of our most sacred and precious American rights, the foundation of our democratic republic – the free exchange of ideas, says Jeff Gray at a press conference and continues:

– I will demand the death penalty.

At 11 p.m., Swedish time, Robinson appeared in court for the first time via link. While Judge Tony Graf read out all the charges, the 22-year-old sat silent and expressionless.

Robinson's message:"It was me, sorry"

Investigators believe Robinson hid the rifle in his pants to gain entry to the university campus. His DNA was also found on the suspected murder weapon.

– When he is seen crossing the campus area, he walks in an unusual manner, with his right leg slightly bent, which is consistent with a rifle hidden in his pants.

After the murder, Robinson allegedly sent a message to his roommate, with whom he had a romantic relationship, The New York Times reports.

“Drop everything, check under your desk” , he wrote.

There was a note there with the text: “I have the chance to kill Charlie Kirk and I will take it” .

"Huh? Are you kidding?", the roommate replied.

Robinson then allegedly asked his roommate to delete the messages.

When asked why he shot Kirk, the 22-year-old replied that he:"had enough of his hatred". In addition, Robinson wrote that he had been planning the murder for a little more than a week and that he wanted to keep it a secret until he himself died at an old age.

Confronted by their parents

When images of the suspected shooter were published, Robinson's mother reportedly called her son to ask where he was.

– He replied that he was at home sick and that he had been home since September 10, says prosecutor Jeff Gray.

The father then reportedly became concerned that the suspected weapon resembled a rifle his son had received as a gift. Tyler refused to send a picture of the weapon to his parents and suggested over the phone that he was planning to take his own life.

They managed to convince their son to come to their home. Tyler then reportedly said he “couldn’t go to jail, and he wanted to end it all,” according to Jeff Gray.

After a 33-hour police operation, Tyler Robinson reportedly surrendered to the police on the evening of September 11.

During police questioning, the mother reportedly stated that her son had moved to the left politically, especially when it came to LGBTQI issues.
