US President Donald Trump had a lengthy phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday morning Norwegian time. The call comes after Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday evening and Saturday night.

- Trump is now in talks with NATO leaders, the White House says.

The Zelensky call was announced in advance. Trump said after the Putin meeting that the Ukrainian president would be the first to get a call about how it had gone and what the status is.

The Trump-Putin meeting drew criticism from several quarters because Ukraine was not represented. Critics, especially in Europe, emphasized that the country - as an independent state - must have a place in any process concerning its territory and a possible peace agreement.

Following the phone call, Zelenskyy says he has had conversations with both Trump and European leaders today.

"We need real peace, not just a break from Russia's attacks," he says.

The Ukrainian president has reportedly made it clear to Trump that he believes it is important to maintain pressure on Russia.

"When it comes to negotiations, long-term security must be guaranteed. Both the US and Europe must give us security guarantees," he says.
