Russian Attacks on Ukraine

Zelenskyy-Trump Agreement

Russia sent 550 drones and missiles into Ukraine and Kyiv on Friday night, in what is being described as the largest airstrike since the war began.

The attack reportedly occurred right after US President Donald Trump spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

"He's doing it on purpose. Putin shows a complete lack of respect for the United States and everyone who has called for an end to the war," he says.

One person was killed and 26 injured, including a child. The attack lasted seven hours and caused extensive damage in several places in the Ukrainian capital, according to authorities.

Disturbing that so many missiles escaped through

Air force expert and associate professor Lars Peder Haga at the Norwegian Air Force Academy notes that last night's attack was the largest of the war so far, and that it was entirely concentrated on Kyiv. It follows a pattern where a great many weapons are directed at one or a few targets, he points out.

– It is worrying that all of the ballistic missiles sent towards Kyiv appear to have penetrated the air defenses surrounding the city. Kyiv is the one city we know of that has always had Patriot missiles in place. This may indicate that the Ukrainians now have very few missiles left and must prioritize hard, says Haga.

– The attack is clearly a continuation of the Russian blackmail strategy against Ukraine to force a capitulation, he adds.

The widespread attack came around the same time that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the United States has now halted a large shipment of American weapons that the Biden administration had promised to Ukraine.

Ukraine's national railway authorities also report that the attack has caused damage in Kyiv.

– The Russian attack on Ukraine last night was one of the largest so far. Russia will not stop its attacks without strong pressure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday.

– For every attack on people and human life, they should feel appropriate sanctions and blows to the economy, revenues and infrastructure, Zelensky said.

He writes on X that the attack was intentionally massive and cynical.

– Yet Russia shows that they have no intention of stopping the war and terror, he adds.

According to Russian authorities, a woman was killed in a Ukrainian attack. In addition, many people had to be evacuated, according to the acting governor of the Rostov region in southern Russia.
