Moscow has launched new accusations against European countries, claiming that they are putting themselves at great risk due to their massive investments in armaments. The Kremlin has revived the idea that Russia could consider using nuclear weapons, according to the DPA news agency.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that European states are allocating very large sums of money for armaments, thus contributing to the prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine.
"Of course, it is very difficult to predict anything against the backdrop of such an emotional state, bordering on irrationality, that reigns on the European continent," Peskov said, quoted by Russian media.
Peskov also discussed recent changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine, which he said now includes cases where nuclear powers"incite" non-nuclear-weapon states to take hostile actions against Russia, interpreted as acts of aggression.
France and Britain are the only two European states that possess nuclear weapons. The Kremlin did not mention either of them directly, but the message was clearly aimed at the current security context on the continent.
