That's what it's about

  • Trump announces a ceasefire between Israel and Iran on Truth Social.
  • While the agreement was still somewhat unclear early this morning, all parties have now confirmed a ceasefire.
  • Shortly before it came into effect, Israel and Iran intensified their attacks again. Nine people died in Israel overnight.

While Trump made several posts on Truth Social overnight announcing a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Israel's military reported the sixth wave of a rocket attack from Iran early Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister and Iranian state television are contradicting each other regarding a ceasefire. Netanyahu confirmed the ceasefire after initially remaining silent. On Tuesday morning, Iranian missiles killed nine Israelis.

On Tuesday morning (CET), Trump wrote: The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it!

This is what Trump says

Overnight, Trump posted several times on Truth Social that a phased ceasefire between Israel and Iran was coming into effect. It is scheduled to begin in approximately six hours, he wrote at midnight Central European Time (CET).

According to the statement, Iran is to refrain from attacking for 12 hours – then Israel for the next 12 hours. Thus, the 12-day war is supposed to be over. Five hours later, Trump posted again:"We couldn't have made today's agreement without our great B-2 pilots."

How Iran reacts

At 6:20 a.m. CET, the time Trump said the first phase of the ceasefire should have begun, Israel's military reported that a sixth wave of rockets had been fired by Iran at Israel. The rocket attacks overnight left three dead and several injured, according to the Times of Israel.

It is unclear whether Iran is ignoring Trump's ceasefire or whether this is a final major attack before the agreement takes effect. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi initially wrote on X that there was no agreement. Shortly afterward, however, he wrote that the military operation to punish Israel for its aggression had continued until the last minute, thus seemingly indirectly confirming the ceasefire. Iranian state television also repeatedly referred to a ceasefire declared by Trump.

How Israel reacts

The Israeli government has not yet commented on Trump's ceasefire. Shortly before Trump's announcement, the Israeli army issued evacuation orders for additional parts of the Iranian capital, Tehran. On Tuesday morning, journalists from Agence France-Presse reported several explosions that shook Tehran. They were said to be the most powerful since the war began.

However, there have reportedly been no more attacks against Iran since 4:00 a.m. CET. Prime Minister Netanyahu convened a meeting of the Security Cabinet overnight. According to the Jerusalem Post, Netanyahu asked the ministers not to make any public statements after the meeting.

On Wednesday morning, however, Netanyahu confirmed a ceasefire. His office stated that Israel had achieved all of its war aims. In consultation with President Trump, Israel had agreed to a proposal for a bilateral ceasefire, he added. However, Israel would respond strongly to any violation of this agreement.

This is what the White House says

Trump communicated directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to secure the ceasefire, a senior White House official told the Associated Press. The White House claims that the US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday contributed to the Israeli government's agreement to a ceasefire. The Qatari government helped broker the agreement.

Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly communicated with Iran. The White House responded to Trump's social media post with a photo of the president holding a red cap bearing the words:"Trump was right about everything."
