Ceasefire Violations and Tensions

Israel today refrained from further attacks on Iran after talks between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Netanyahu's office said. Trump urged both sides to respect the ceasefire, and was particularly harsh on Israel.

"Following President Trump's conversation with the Prime Minister, Israel has refrained from further attacks," Netanyahu's office said, according to AFP.

Both Israel and Iran accused each other of carrying out attacks this morning after a ceasefire was said to have already taken effect in the early morning hours.

Trump then harshly called on Israel to respect the ceasefire and not drop bombs on Iran, and to send its pilots home. Later, in a post on his Truth Social network, he stressed that Israel would not attack Iran, that no one would be hurt, and that the ceasefire was valid.

Netanyahu's office also announced that in their conversation, Trump"expressed his belief in the stability of the ceasefire".

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, meanwhile, said, according to AFP, that Iran would respect the ceasefire if it"is not violated by the Zionist regime".

Trump previously expressed his dissatisfaction with both sides in a statement to the media before leaving Washington for the NATO summit, which is taking place in The Hague today and Wednesday, criticizing Israel in particular and saying, among other things, that they"have to calm down."

During his flight to The Hague, he also told reporters that he did not want regime change in Iran, but would like to see the situation calm down as soon as possible, according to the British BBC."Regime change brings chaos, we do not want that," the US president also said.

Both Israel and Iran continued to shell intensively overnight in the hours between Trump's initial announcement of the ceasefire and before its intended implementation, and currently, despite the chaotic situation, it appears that the fragile ceasefire is holding for now.
