Nigeria's Super Falcons Recognition

The team from the cradle of football had the first chance, in the 3rd minute Russová went from half the field alone to the goalkeeper, but Collová cleared her shot. She also managed to deal with Hempová's attempt in the 20th minute, who caught a failed Spanish pass. On the other hand, the tournament's top scorer Gonzálezová had the fifth goal on her feet, but goalkeeper Hampton was against it. Caldenteyová, however, already headed it right into the net.

From that moment on, the Iberian team took complete control of the game, clearly dominating possession and for a long time the game was played almost exclusively in the English half. A midfield with two-time Ballon d'Or winners Bonmatí and Putellas put the opposition under pressure.

But when England broke free, Russova also managed to equalize with her head in a rare move. The final pass was addressed to her by substitute Kelly, who scored the goal that advanced in the semi-final against Italy. This time too, her arrival gave the defending champions a big boost and they took the match to extra time for the third time in a row.

In it, the Spaniard Paralluel was close to deciding the score, but she did not change the balance of the score and the match went to penalties. In them, Hampton caught the intentions of Caldentey and Bonmatí, and Paralluel aimed wide. Colla managed to deal with attempts by Mead and Williamson, but missed Kelly's decisive shot.

England lost to France at the start of the tournament and almost reached the quarter-finals, where they overcame Sweden on penalties after being two goals down with 11 minutes to go. They advanced to the semi-finals by beating Italy with a goal in stoppage time. Their coach Sarina Wiegman won her third consecutive gold medal, her first in 2017 with the Netherlands.

Aitana Bonmatí, who was released from hospital just days before the tournament after suffering from meningitis, was named the tournament's best player. The award for the most talented player went to 19-year-old Englishwoman Michelle Agyemang.

The total attendance of 623,088 spectators is a new championship record, as are the 106 goals scored. The winning team will receive five million euros (122 million crowns) from UEFA, with at least 35 percent of that being divided among the players under the new rule.
