The President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was one of the eight heads of state and government decorated by Volodymyr Zelensky, on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day.

Marcelo"was awarded by the President of Ukraine with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 1st degree, on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day," reads a note on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic.

According to the same note, Volodymyr Zelensky's Saturday decree decided to award 143 international personalities for their"significant contribution to strengthening international cooperation, supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, supporting social causes and promoting Ukraine globally," including eight heads of state and government.

"The President of the Republic reiterates Portugal's unwavering commitment to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people," the note adds.
