Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone for nearly an hour about the settlement in Ukraine, but Russia is not giving up on its goals, Putin's foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov said.

According to Reuters, Ushakov said the two presidents expressed their intention to “seek a negotiated solution” to the Ukraine issue, and Trump “raised the issue of a quick end to the conflict in Ukraine.” But Putin insisted that Russia “will achieve its goal of eliminating the fundamental problems that led to the conflict in Ukraine” and “will not back down from its goals.”
Russia's position is that"peace talks in Ukraine are taking place between Moscow and Kiev." Putin and Trump did not discuss the halting of some US arms shipments to Ukraine, but they also had a detailed discussion about Iran and the Middle East.
The leaders agreed to continue discussions in the future, writes the Guardian.
