Political Reactions to Fux's Vote

247 - Jurist Marcelo Uchôa criticized Supreme Court Justice Luiz Fux, who, this Wednesday (10), disagreed with Justice Alexandre de Moraes and expressed openness to the acquittal of the defendants in the coup plot. According to the scholar, the judge “stopped being just another conservative and became a trivializer of the coup.” “It is unacceptable for a Supreme Court justice to act like this, dismissing the defense of democracy and his Court,” the jurist wrote on the social network X.

"I could never have imagined that after everything we saw on January 8th - all the trauma we had to overcome, all the reconstruction we had to implement - we would still have to watch a Supreme Court minister acting as if he were a coup-plotting parliamentarian from the impunity caucus."

At the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the January 8, 2023, coup plots are part of a broader investigation into the attempted coup plotted during Jair Bolsonaro's term (2019-2022). In the specific investigation into the terrorist mobilizations, the Supreme Court indicted more than 640 defendants. In the inquiry into the coup plot, two justices—Alexandre de Moraes and Flávio Dino—voted to convict the defendants.

Initially, the Supreme Federal Court is trying seven people facing criminal charges in the Supreme Court for the attempted coup. One of them is Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is under house arrest in Brasília (DF) and is serving precautionary measures. Combined, the sentences represent more than 40 years in prison.
