The suspect for the murder of the Ukrainian politician Parubiy was arrested

The suspect for the murder of the former president of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, Andrey Parubiy, was arrested today in the Khmelnytskyi region, Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klimenko announced.

"There are not many details for now. I will only say that the crime was carefully prepared. We studied the travel schedule of the murdered man, the route was set and an escape plan was devised,'' Klimenko said, reports Ukrinform.

He said that the police and state security officers detained the suspect in just 36 hours.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was informed about the arrest of the suspect.

"The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klimenko, and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, have just reported on the detention of the suspect in the murder of Andriy Parubiy. Necessary investigative actions are underway,'' Zelenski wrote on his account on the X social network.

He pointed out that he issued an order for all available information to be made public.

Yesterday in Lviv, an unknown assailant fired eight shots at Parubi, who succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Referring to unnamed sources in law enforcement agencies, journalist Vitaly Glagola announced on his Telegram channel that the politician was killed by a person disguised as a courier for the food delivery service"Glovo".

Zelensky thanked Pope Leo for the call to end the war in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Pope Leo XIV today, who previously expressed solidarity with the victims of Russian shelling and called for an end to the war.

"We fully support His Holiness' position on the need for an immediate ceasefire and call on Russia to take real steps to stop the killings and create conditions for diplomacy," Zelensky said.

He emphasized that Russia must end the war it started and called on the international community to"put pressure on Moscow to force it to stop terror and instead promote a meaningful peace process", reports Ukrinform.

Earlier today, Pope Leo prayed for the victims of recent large-scale Russian airstrikes against Ukraine and called for an immediate ceasefire and serious steps towards dialogue.

Dear brothers and sisters, unfortunately, the war in Ukraine continues to sow death and destruction. And these days, shelling has hit various cities, including the capital Kyiv, causing numerous casualties. I renew my closeness with the Ukrainian people and all affected families," Pope Leo XIV said.

Grossi: Russia did not allow IAEA inspectors access to the zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear plant

Russia did not allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) access to the new dam built by the Russians near the Zaporozhye nuclear plant, the agency's director Rafael Grossi said.

He added that after the destruction of the Kahovka hydroelectric plant and its lake, a new dam was built to retain the amount of water sufficient to cool the six reactors of the Zaporozhye nuclear plant.

"Our access to this dam is important in order to assess the reactor cooling situation, which is of key importance given the unstable security situation at the nuclear plant," Grossi said, according to Sky News.

According to him, the situation is further complicated by the fact that the nuclear plant currently relies on external power to power its systems, given that it does not produce electricity on its own for the time being.

As reported by the Unian agency, information appeared in the spring that Russia wants to continue electricity production in Zaporozhye in order to supply Ukrainian territories, and at that time the IAEA announced that there were no signs that the Russian side was preparing for such a thing.

Later, the head of the agency said that the issue was discussed with the Russian side, and the position was agreed that for now it is not advisable to start a nuclear plant, although Russia has not made clear promises in this regard, according to Unian.

Von der Leyen: Europe has a precise plan on sending troops to Ukraine

Europe has precisely planned how to send troops to Ukraine, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said today.

"Safety guarantees are more important than anything else. They are absolutely crucial,'' von der Leyen said, reports the Financial Times.

She stated that there is a road map on security garrisons, which European leaders agreed on at the White House.

"(American President Donald) Trump assured us that American troops will also participate in support of Ukraine, which has been confirmed several times," von der Leyen said.

She added that Trump wants peace, but that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to come to the negotiating table.

"Putin is not doing what he says he is going to do," von der Leyen believes.

She stated that the EC will investigate new streams that can help sustainably finance the Ukrainian army, as well as that the existing streams of aid, including budget support, should continue to function during the peacetime period.
