The German company "Rheinmetall" has signed a contract for the delivery of anti-aircraft systems "Skyranger 35" (skyranger 35) on the chassis of the tank "Leopard 1" to Ukraine, the company announced.
The general director of the company, Armin Paperger, said that he was grateful to Ukraine for the trust shown and highlighted the support of an EU member state that finances the purchase from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets, Ukrinform reported. The value of the contract is estimated at hundreds of millions of euros, it was stated in the announcement.
According to the manufacturer, the"Skyranger 35" based on the "Leopard 1" combines mobility and protection of the platform with a cannon anti-aircraft system. The system has a rate of fire of up to 1,000 rounds per minute and an effective range of up to four kilometers.
"Rheinmetall" states that the new systems will improve protection against low-flying targets, primarily unmanned aerial vehicles, and enable greater mobility and protection in difficult combat conditions. The company previously, at the beginning of September, announced its intention to deliver"Skyranger" systems to Ukraine, and today's contract confirms the continuation of that initiative,"Rheinmetall" stated.
