On Sunday night, Russia carried out its largest airstrike to date against Ukraine. The main government building was destroyed and four people were killed.

– For the first time during the war, the main building of the government of Ukraine has been destroyed by enemy attack, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said in a statement Sunday morning.

"It's the roof and the upper floors that are damaged," Svyrdydenko said, adding that firefighters were working to put out the fire in the building.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a fire broke out in the government building in the city center after the attack began with drones, followed by rockets.

Drones

According to Ukraine's air defense, Russia attacked the country with 805 drones and 13 missiles during the night.

That is the highest number so far in the war, according to the Air Force.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the attacks were only aimed at military-related targets and infrastructure.

A drone strike in Kyiv killed an infant and a young woman, Klitschko wrote on Telegram. More than a dozen others were injured, according to police.

Apartment block

In the Svyatoshynskyi district in the west, several floors of a nine-story apartment building were partially destroyed, according to Klitschko and emergency services.

Falling drone parts also sparked fires in a 16-story apartment building and two nine-story buildings.

“Russia is deliberately attacking civilian targets,” Timur Tkachenko, head of the capital’s military administration, said on Telegram.

Other cities affected

Other parts of Ukraine were also hit. In Dnipropetrovsk, one man was killed and several others were injured, according to local authorities.

In the Sumy region, one person was killed, local authorities there said late Saturday.

Dozens of explosions shook Kremenchuk, and parts of the city lost power, said Mayor Vitaly Maletsky.

In Kryvyi Rih, the attacks targeted transport and city infrastructure, but no damage was reported, according to Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the local military administration.

In the southern city of Odesa, civilian infrastructure and apartment buildings were damaged, and fires broke out in several buildings, Governor Oleh Kiper said.
