US President Donald Trump has expressed support for former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a right-wing politician who the country's attorney general has accused of attempting a coup and poisoning his political opponent.
The head of the White House posted the corresponding post on his own social network Truth Social, Ukrinform reports.
"Brazil is treating ex-President Jair Bolsonaro terribly. I watched with the entire world as they did exactly what they did, persecuting him day after day, night after night, month after month, year after year!" Trump wrote.
At the same time, the White House host stated that Bolsonaro was not guilty of anything, except for fighting for the people. He called the Brazilian politician a strong leader who sincerely loved his country, as well as a very tough negotiator on trade issues.
His election victory was very close, and now he is leading in the polls. This is nothing more than an attack on a political opponent - something I know a lot about! - emphasized the current president of the USA. He also called the persecution of Bolsonaro a witch hunt.
Trump noted that the same thing happened to him, and now, according to him, the United States is the hottest country in the world.
"The only trial that should be held is the trial of the voters of Brazil, which is called the election. Leave Bolsonaro alone!" Trump stressed.
As reported, Donald Trump continues to claim that the 2020 US presidential election, won by Democrat Joe Biden, was rigged. He calls the election stolen despite court rulings that proved the integrity of the voting and vote counting in all states and constituencies where Trump campaign lawyers sued.
