Pedro Sánchez once again demonstrates his good rapport with Volodymyr Zelensky and publicly offers his full support in the negotiations with Russia and the United States (US) to find a solution to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The leader of the Spanish government announced on social media that he held a conversation with the Ukrainian president this Saturday afternoon."I just spoke with Zelensky to discuss the latest developments on the ground. I reiterated my full support," the president of the Spanish government began his statement on X.

We must achieve a just and lasting peace that respects Ukraine's independence and sovereignty, Sánchez argues, and he has made this clear to Zelensky after months of fruitless negotiations to achieve peace in the invaded territory and the Ukrainian leader's refusal to hand over his country to the Russian invaders in exchange for this, since, according to Washington, kyiv would have to make territorial concessions to end the conflict. So does Moscow.

The conversation between the Spaniard and the Ukrainian comes just one day after it was announced that US President Donald Trump—who recently served as a peace mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan—and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will meet in the state of Alaska next Friday, August 15, to address the conflict. They will do so without kyiv, as has happened on previous occasions. This has earned Sánchez's condemnation:"No Ukraine without Ukraine," the Socialist told Zelensky, before immediately calling for unity of action."We must be united," Sánchez urged.

Zelensky, for his part, immediately thanked Spain, also publicly, for its support of the Ukrainian people and reminded them that the most important thing now is to ensure that Russia does not impose its unrealistic conditions on anyone again. Like Sánchez, he boasted of their good relationship and emphasized how important it is that Pedro and he share the same opinion."We are coordinating our common European position. We are prepared to move forward as quickly and as constrainedly as possible toward a just peace," said the Ukrainian president, who explained that their integration into the European Union (EU) was also discussed."Ukraine has fulfilled all its obligations and is fully prepared to open the first round of negotiations," he said he informed the Spanish prime minister.

The upcoming meeting between the US and Russia is a meeting that both sides have already announced as decisive for the outcome of a war that began more than three years ago. Regarding the possible content of the agreement, he stated that formulas for the return and exchange of territories to the benefit of both parties are being studied, and that more details will be discussed soon. The White House insists that the meeting was a Russian initiative, while the Kremlin maintains that it originated in Washington.
