“Iran and Israel must and will make a deal,” US President Donald Trump wrote on his social media account Truth Social. He said he would be the one to make the deal happen. He wrote in the post that tensions in various parts of the world have eased thanks to his efforts.

“There will be PEACE soon between Israel and Iran!” Trump writes. “Lots of calls and meetings going on right now. I work hard and never get credit for anything, but that’s okay, the PEOPLE understand.” He ends his post with: “LET’S MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!”

In fact, there is no sign that the tension between Israel and Iran, which has been simmering for days, is easing, with the two countries continuously firing missiles at each other. Several Iranian missiles also hit Israeli targets overnight. Prime Minister Netanyahu said Iran would “pay a very heavy price” for the deaths of Israeli civilians. At the site of the rocket attack in Bat Yam – where a residential building was hit – Netanyahu described it as “a premeditated murder of civilians, women and children” and declared that Iran poses an “existential threat” to Israel. He added that he “expressed his deepest condolences” for the victims and that “our hearts go out to the families”, while urging people to follow the authorities’ safety instructions.

And the words of Iranian President Massoud Pesekian also point to further escalation. If Israel continues the attacks, it can expect a “tougher and more severe” response, he said. In a phone call with the Iraqi prime minister, Pesekian said that other countries in the region could be at risk if the attacks continue, and called for “decisive action” by Islamic countries.
