Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, stated on Monday that Moscow"has the same approach they had when the war in Ukraine practically started and called it a special operation in the war."
"The fact that they are trying to use different words does not change the reality that we all know," the head of Romanian diplomacy emphasized to Digi24, referring to Russian attempts to minimize the seriousness of the incident.
Țoiu confirmed that the Romanian pilots had visual contact with the drone and that it"is a model belonging to the Iranians that the Ukrainian army has never used."
Regarding the Russians' denial about the drone in Romanian space, the minister stated that"no one has a stake in convincing the Russians that the Russian drone is Russia's. At a time when they know this very well, their attempts to change reality using these types of discourse are not attempts that will succeed."
Minister Țoiu warned that if Russia "thought that this provocation would intimidate or that their attempts to diminish European solidarity would be successful attempts, they are mistaken. Every time there are challenges to the common allied space, to the space of the European Union, what happens is that we use those moments to intensify the dialogue between us, to increase solidarity," explained the head of the MFA.
Asked about the Kremlin's statements that NATO is in a fight with Russia, Țoiu said that"NATO is a defensive alliance. Its goal is peace. We are increasing capabilities to ensure deterrence and defense mechanisms."
When asked about the alert level, Țoiu assured:"We, at this moment, are safe. We continue our efforts to ensure this, increasing the capabilities we have and intensifying the dialogue in the NATO format, in the European Union format."
