Mexico City.Hurricane Erick is now a category 2, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported this afternoon, adding that the storm is expected to make landfall on the coasts of Oaxaca and Guerrero in the early hours of June 19.

“The National Civil Protection Coordination reports that Hurricane Erick is now a category 2 and will hit the coasts of Oaxaca and Guerrero in the early hours of Thursday the 19th,” she said on social media.

The Chief Executive took the opportunity to urge the population to stay home, and “if you live in low-lying areas and near riverbeds, go to the shelters provided.”

She said that classes have been suspended in various regions of both entities that will be affected by the phenomenon and alerts the population.
