Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas have begun in Qatar to reach a ceasefire agreement and release hostages in Gaza, according to what an informed Palestinian source told Agence France-Presse.
The source said that"negotiations are focused on the implementation mechanisms" of the potential agreement and the "prisoner exchange," explaining that they began at 6:30 PM GMT and that "positions and answers will be exchanged through mediators."
Israeli officials who participated in the government meeting held Saturday night, chaired by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reported that Netanyahu had already made a decision to move forward with implementing a new agreement on Gaza, despite objections within his government.
Israeli Channel 13 reported, citing officials, that members of the Israeli delegation in Doha are scheduled to work in the coming days to bridge the remaining gaps in the agreement.
She added that among the outstanding issues that remain controversial are the deployment of the Israeli army during the ceasefire period and the mechanism for distributing humanitarian aid that will enter the Gaza Strip.
She explained that the method for determining the list of ten living hostages expected to be released as part of the potential agreement has not yet been decided.
