Nighttime curfew imposed in parts of downtown Los Angeles

Wednesday, June 11

Los Angeles, California. Mayor Karen Bass on Tuesday declared a curfew in downtown Los Angeles “to stop the vandalism, to stop the looting.”

At a press conference, he declared a local emergency, and a curfew will be in effect from 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The curfew will apply to a 2.59-square-kilometer (1 square mile) section of the city center, which includes the area where protests have been taking place since Friday.

“We reached a tipping point” after 23 businesses were looted, Bass said.
