Less than three minutes before the end of the regular time, the score was tied at 76:76, but the Swedes were unsuccessful in their attacks and made mistakes, which gave Turkey the opportunity to secure the victory.
For the Turks, Alperen Shengin stood out with 24 points, 16 rebounds and six assists, Cedi Osman scored 17 points, Ercan Osmani scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Shehmus Hadzer had 11 points and Shane Larkin had ten.
For Sweden, Ludwig Håkansson had 16 points and five assists, Pelle Lässson and Viktor Gadefors each scored 15 points, the latter with seven rebounds, Simon Birgander had 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Melvin Pancars scored ten points and dished out six assists.
Turkey will face either Poland or Bosnia and Herzegovina in the quarterfinals.
Today in Riga at 6 pm Latvia will play Lithuania, at 3:15 pm - Germany and Portugal, at 9:45 pm - Serbia and Finland.
The remaining round of 16 matches will take place on Sunday, when Poland will face Bosnia and Herzegovina, France will face Georgia, Italy will face Slovenia, and Greece will face Israel.
In the final tournament of the European Championship, 24 teams played in four groups in Riga, Tampere, Katowice and Limassol. The four best teams in each group qualified for the play-off tournament in Riga, with the medal winners determined in the first half of September. The teams from groups A and B, as well as groups C and D, will meet in the round of 16.
