How fired up is Trump coming to the NATO summit?

Berlin/The Hague – When Donald Trump boarded the government plane heading for Europe, he was already the winner of the NATO summit. Actually...

Hours earlier, the US President had announced a ceasefire between the mullahs and Israel. However, it didn't go quite as he expected. The ceasefire was shaky. Trump was clearly angry and cursed – in public:"What the fuck!"

▶︎Trump is not yet in control of the situation, even if he would like to be. He actually wanted to maximize the success of the silence in The Hague. Because the ceasefire, at least for the time being, solved a problem Trump had brought with him: the uncertainty of how Iran would retaliate after the American attacks over the weekend.

Uncertainty in your luggage!

On the government plane carrying Chancellor Friedrich Merz (69, CDU) and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (65, SPD) to Amsterdam, Trump's bad-tempered remarks immediately made the rounds.

And immediately, memories resurfaced of how provocatively the US President had recently crashed the G7 summit in Canada, denouncing Russia's ban from the club as a mistake. This had broken off the thread of conversation with Putin – a clear provocation with which he set the tone.

Trump's ad hoc departure from the G7 meeting was also a lesson for NATO chief Mark Rutte (58). He shortened his summit, for which Trump had"firmly confirmed" his participation, to such an extent that the American had little chance of leaving the event again, citing the Middle East. It was supposed to be"sweet and short," the statement said. In other words: entertaining and uncomplicated.

Explosive: Trump published Rutte's personal messages to him on his"Truth Social" platform – clearly a provocation. After all, such things don't belong in public. The US president seems to be ready for another riot.

A single message should be proclaimed

To lift Trump's spirits, a celebratory dinner with the royal couple at the palace is scheduled for his arrival. He will also be allowed to stay overnight in the royal palace. A round of golf with King Willem-Alexander (58) is reportedly even planned.

While all important defense policy issues were supposed to be discussed at epic length over two full days of meetings, there is now only one strictly planned two-and-a-half-hour working session, from which exactly ONE message is to be trumpeted to the world:

► Member states' defense spending will be increased to five percent of their GDP each by 2035 – as demanded by the US. This would be Europe's largest military buildup since the Cold War! In return, the US supports the document's key formulation:"We renew our unbreakable commitment to collective defense – an attack against one is an attack against all."

Trump wants to meet Zelensky

And now? The program "just" has to go off without a hitch. On the flight to The Hague, Trump confirmed that he wants to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (47) on the sidelines of the NATO summit."Yes, I will probably meet with him," he said.
