A Russian drone may have violated Romanian airspace on Saturday afternoon, Hotnews.ro reports, which says the drone may have been sent as part of an attack on Ukrainian infrastructure on the Danube.
The newspaper reports that following the alert, two F-16 fighter jets took off at 18:05 local time, and the aircraft spotted the flying object at 18:23. According to the newspaper, citing a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the drone was tracked approximately 20 km southwest of Chilia Veche when it disappeared from radar.
Meanwhile, a warning message was sent to the public. According to the ministry, the drone was not flying over populated areas and did not pose an immediate threat to the safety of the population.
Radar systems are still monitoring the situation. Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu said that the situation is being constantly monitored and that the population is still not in danger.
Defense Ministry experts are preparing to search for possible remains of the drone.
At the same time, Polish fighter jets took off in Poland and closed the Lublin airport due to the threat of drone strikes in Ukraine.
In this case, it was not a question of Russian drones violating Polish airspace again, as they did at dawn on Wednesday.
