“We are here as Eumans at the Budapest Pride because demonstrating for the rights of Hungarian citizens means demonstrating for the rights of everyone in Europe, for sexual freedom and for freedom of demonstration and association”. This is what Marco Cappato, founder of the pan-European grassroots initiative movement Eumans, who today participated in the Budapest Pride banned by Orban.
An open civic assembly organized by Eumans was held in Budapest, attended by activists, parliamentarians, lawyers and citizens from all over Europe. Among the proposals on the agenda were the suspension of Hungary from voting rights in the European Council and the creation of a statute for “European associations”, in order to overcome the obstacles and boycotts that civil society organizations suffer in Hungary and other European countries.
