What did Ozzy Osbourne die of?

So far, the family has not revealed the cause of death of the singer, however it was known since 2019 that Ozzy Osbourne was living with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

Osbourne's final concert, titled"Back to the Beginning," took place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park, an event that marked the reunion of the original Black Sabbath lineup (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward) for the first time in 20 years.

The show, which raised $190 million for charities including Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice, was a tribute to Osbourne’s career and to the birthplace of heavy metal, Birmingham.

Despite his advanced Parkinson's disease and multiple health problems, including spinal surgery and a quad bike accident that left him unable to walk, Osbourne gave a memorable performance.

From a throne adorned with a bat and skulls, he performed solo classics such as “I Don’t Know,” “Mr. Crowley,” “Suicide Solution,” “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” and “Crazy Train,” followed by a final set with Black Sabbath that included “War Pigs,” “N.I.B.,” “Iron Man,” and “Paranoid.”

In front of 40,000 fans at the stadium and 5.8 million viewers online, Osbourne expressed his gratitude: “You have no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Who was Ozzy Osbourne?

Ozzy Osbourne, whose real name is John Michael Osbourne (born on December 3, 1948 in Birmingham, England), was an influential British musician and composer, known primarily as the founding vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath and later for his successful solo career.

Known as the"Prince of Darkness" and the "Godfather of Heavy Metal", Ozzy Osbourne is considered a key figure in the history of rock and heavy metal, a genre he helped found with Black Sabbath in the late 1960s.

His distinctive, powerful and dramatic voice was the hallmark of the band's dark and heavy sound, with emblematic albums such as Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971) and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) that marked a before and after in music.

After leaving Black Sabbath in 1979, Ozzy embarked on a solo career that led him to worldwide success with albums like Blizzard of Ozz (1980) and Diary of a Madman (1981), cementing him as an international superstar and living metal legend. He also served as a musical mentor to famed guitarists Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, and Zakk Wylde.

Ozzy also transcended music by becoming a media phenomenon thanks to his eccentric personality, marked by episodes of addiction and controversial behavior, and the popularity of his family with the reality show The Osbournes (MTV, 2001).

Throughout his 40-plus-year career, Ozzy sold millions of records and performed to millions of fans around the world, leaving an indelible legacy on rock and heavy metal culture.
