Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced on Sunday via his social media accounts the assassination of Abu Obeida, the spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement.

Earlier, Israeli media reported that the security services had received final confirmation of the death of Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Obeida.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli occupation forces had attacked Abu Obeida, the Hamas spokesman, saying:"We are awaiting the results."

Netanyahu added, during a meeting of the security cabinet:"We are awaiting the results. I noticed that Hamas' announcement was a little late. It seems they have no one to inform us of this matter," according to Channel 14.

He continued:"This is just the beginning. Anyone who attacks Israel will pay a heavy price." The Israeli military announced that Abu Obeida's fate remains unknown, suggesting he was likely seriously injured.
