The German newspaper "Spiegel" published a transcript of the conversation between European leaders, including Macron and Zelensky

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, warned that the United States of America could betray Ukraine, according to the transcript of the conversation between European leaders on strategies for the protection of Kiev, which was published by the German newspaper"Spiegel".

In a telephone conversation on Monday, Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and others and discussed US-led peace talks with Kiev and Moscow.

- There is a possibility that the USA will betray Ukraine on the issue of territories without clarity on security guarantees - Macron said, according to a German newspaper, adding that there is a"great danger" for Zelensky, the Brussels portal"Politico" reports.

The Elysée Palace did not respond to the Brussels portal's request for comment.

"Spiegel" reported that the Elysee Palace in a statement sent to this German newspaper denied that Macron spoke of any treason.

- The president did not use those words - the office of the president of France stated, reports the newspaper.

Concern of European leaders for Zelenski

Mertz said that Zelensky must be"extremely careful in the coming days".

- They are playing with you and us - Mertz said, apparently referring to US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, who on Tuesday spent five hours in closed-door talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Merco's spokesman, Stefan Cornelius, told"Politico" that he does not confirm or comment on parts of the conversation as a matter of principle

Finnish President Stubb, according to the transcript, agreed with Mertz.

- We cannot leave Ukraine and Volodymyr alone with those people - he said, obviously referring to Witkoff and Kushner, with which Rute agreed.

Rute said that he agrees with Stuba that they must protect Zelenski.

NATO also declined to comment on the transcript.

Russia does not give up its maximalist demands

The talks came after the Trump administration unveiled a 28-point peace plan, said to have been drawn up by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, Vitkoff and Kushner, which Ukraine and European allies criticized as too favorable to Russia, triggering the talks in Geneva.

Those subsequent negotiations, involving European, Ukrainian and American officials, resulted in an updated 19-point plan, which Russia has not yet accepted.

Moscow has not given up its maximalist demands, that is, that Kiev hand over large parts of the unoccupied territory in the east, limit the size of its army and hold new elections, states"Politico".

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Stere and European Council President Antonio Costa also participated in the conversation, which took place on Monday, according to Spiegel.

During the conversation, as published by the German newspaper, there was also talk about frozen Russian funds, with some leaders pointing out that the seizure of funds should be a decision of the EU, not the US.
