After the apparent triumph in Alaska, Russian propaganda is already expecting more serious agreements between the US and Russia, which will be concluded in Budapest. Kremlin diplomatic advisor Yuri Ushakov is already describing the upcoming summit as a “meeting between two great powers,” where the main focus will be not even on achieving peace in Ukraine, but on the “huge prospects” in economic cooperation between Russia and the US.
Russian officials have expressed a fairly obvious detachment from reality. For example, Kremlin economic advisor Kirill Dmitriev offered billionaire Elon Musk on the social network X to get involved in building a tunnel from Alaska to Chukotka.
This tunnel, which would be more than 100 kilometers long, could be worth more than $65 billion. Theoretically, Musk's Boring Company could reduce the cost by eight billion dollars, but the question remains - who and what will be transported through this tunnel, which will connect two vast territories, almost uninhabited by people, and which are remote outskirts of both countries.
It is noted that this week Putin again managed to play Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, taking advantage of Trump's naivety and incompetence. The Russian dictator played a card that has worked before. Just as Trump was almost ready to hand over Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, the Kremlin offered new talks, and the US president was once again ready for"diplomacy with a Russia that wants peace."
