Within the framework of the international dynamic launched by King Mohammed VI in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and the autonomy plan, the Netherlands affirmed that “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most realistic solution to put a final end to this regional conflict.”

This position was expressed in the joint declaration adopted today, Friday, in The Hague, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Asylum and Migration of the Netherlands, David van Wel, following a meeting between the two sides.

The joint declaration also noted that the Netherlands welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 and expressed its full support for the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and conduct negotiations based on the Moroccan autonomy initiative, with the aim of reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution, as recommended by the relevant Security Council resolutions.
