Electoral Support and Political Alliance

Trump announced in October that he would soon meet his Russian counterpart in the Hungarian capital to discuss ending the war. But the White House chief later said he had canceled the summit because it did not seem right to hold it at the time.

Several questions from reporters today therefore concerned a possible future meeting with Putin. According to Trump, there is always a possibility that the talks in Budapest will take place.

Trump said he would discuss such a possibility with Orbán."He understands Putin and knows him very well. I think Viktor feels that we want to end the war in the not-too-distant future," Trump said.

In this regard, Orbán stated that only"little Hungary" and the US are pursuing a peace policy, while other countries are pro-war because they believe that Ukraine can defeat Russia on the battlefield.

"So would you say that Ukraine can't win that war?" Trump then asked Orbán."Miracles do happen," admitted the Hungarian prime minister, often seen as the Kremlin's closest ally in the European Union.

Orbán also criticized other countries, including the former US administration of former President Joe Biden, for their approach to arms support for Ukraine after it was attacked by Russian forces. Budapest refuses to supply weapons to Ukraine.

The Hungarian Prime Minister is accompanied to the US by a large delegation, including six ministers, including those of economy and defense.

Last year, the Hungarian prime minister visited Trump at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago three times, twice before the Republican was elected president in the November election.

Orbán is also one of the few leaders of EU countries who is close to both Trump and Putin and who recently declared that the ban on the import of Russian oil into European countries is wrong from a Hungarian perspective.
