US President Donald Trump announced on his social media page on Friday that he had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines near Russia in response to threatening statements by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Based on the extremely provocative statements of Dmitry Medvedev, former President of Russia and currently Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered the dispatch of two nuclear submarines to the relevant regions, in case these foolish and inflammatory statements turn out to be more than just words. Words are very important and can often have unexpected consequences. I hope this will not be such a case. Thank you for your attention!

– the American president wrote in a post on his social media page.

The Russian navy's situation has meanwhile deteriorated, as on Wednesday, when an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale shook Russia's Far East, the force of nature struck one of Vladimir Putin's most prized military installations. Fifteen minutes after the quake, a huge tsunami hit the Rybachy base, hidden deep in Avacha Bay in Kamchatka. The top-secret base is home to the submarines that form the backbone of the Kremlin's naval nuclear deterrent, armed with ballistic missiles. Now, according to satellite images, the base has suffered spectacular damage.

The move was preceded by verbal exchanges.

The dispute between Dmitry Medvedev and Donald Trump erupted after the US president issued an ultimatum. The US president stated that he would give 50 days to conclude agreements on Ukraine, after which he intends to impose 100 percent trade tariffs on Moscow and its trading partners. Later, the US leader indicated that he was disappointed in Russia, and therefore shortened the deadline to 10-12 days.

Medvedev urged Trump to remember that Russia is “not Israel and not Iran” and that “every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war.”

Trump is playing with Russia with an ultimatum: 50 days or 10... Two things you should keep in mind:

1. Russia is not Israel, nor is it Iran.

2. Every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but against your own country. Don't follow Sleepy Joe's example!

Trump later wrote that Medvedev “should watch his words” because he was straying into dangerous territory. In response, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council called the US president “nervous”.

About Trump's threats, which he posted on his personal social network called Truth, which he banned from operating in our country. If the words of the former Russian president cause such a nervous reaction from such a formidable American president, then Russia is right about everything and will continue to go its own way

– Dmitry Medvedev wrote earlier on his Telegram channel.
