The increase in security levels was also noted among senior IDF officials, particularly in light of the assassination of the top Iranian general staff and senior scientists in Iran – a move that led Tehran to threaten retaliatory actions. Meetings of the General Staff and the War Cabinet are currently being held under this set of stringent security restrictions.

The steps are based on information accumulated in recent years according to which Iran has attempted to recruit agents from within and outside Israel, for the purpose of collecting personal intelligence on senior officials – including current Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, senior IDF commanders (including a squadron commander), scientists with access to classified projects, and more.

The IDF spokesman said that in the opening strike on Iran, the head of the Armed Forces Intelligence Department, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' surface-to-surface missile system, and more than 20 military commanders of the Iranian regime were eliminated."The head of the Armed Forces Intelligence Department, Gholam-Raja Merhabi, was responsible for assessing the intelligence situation of the Iranian regime and was considered the most senior intelligence officer in Iran," the IDF spokesman said.

The IDF spokesman updated that nine senior scientists and experts in the Iranian nuclear project were eliminated in strikes in Iran. A three-month-old baby was rescued with her parents from the rubble of a house in Rishon LeZion that was hit early this morning by a missile barrage from Iran. The fire department said that her condition appears to be good. Chef Idan Chen said:"The impact was between two private houses that were completely destroyed, and the two dead are one from each house. It is a supreme happiness to hold the baby by the hand while I scream for them to be saved. I felt like I was in a delivery room with my children. The baby was given life by a great miracle."

Police Sergeant Aviv Saranga, who held the baby until her parents were rescued, said:"I transferred her to a safe place and to the MDA teams. It's a moment of happiness in a difficult and bloody scene."

A resident of the street that was directly hit by the Iranian barrage on Rishon LeZion, where two people were killed, described the moments of terror to Ynet:"We're going up, down, up, down from the MAMD. In the last barrage - a boom of an insane level. It got dark, we left the house - and it was completely dismantled. My wife is in anguish, my son, his wife, granddaughter and two more children - it's a great miracle. I've seen some difficult sights in life, but this is something unbelievable. Another neighbor on the street testified, while busy cleaning up the extensive destruction in his home:"There was an alarm, we went down to the shelter and after five minutes there was an explosion. I went outside and saw two people in the rubble and I helped rescue them. They were standing there bleeding, and asked for help to get out."

Iran reported the sound of explosions in central Tehran, and that an Israeli drone had hit a residential building. The Lebanese Al-Mayadeen network, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported explosions heard near Mehrabad International Airport, west of Tehran. The French news agency AFP reported that heavy smoke was rising above the area.

It was also reported that Iranian defense systems are intercepting "Israeli targets" over the capital.

In contrast to the first two volleys, the IDF reported that a much smaller number of missiles were launched in the third volley - a few dozen. Some were intercepted. The IDF also reported that rescue and search forces are operating in several areas across the country where reports of casualties have been received.

Five were slightly injured in this barrage, and among the injured were two female MDA staff members who were injured by glass fragments after an MDA intensive care unit was hit by shrapnel in the Tel Aviv area. The two were treated on the spot and did not require evacuation to a hospital.
