Ruth Strom, the mother of the abductee Eitan Horn and the survivor of captivity Yair Horn, announced that shrapnel fell on the home of one of their family members during a barrage of ballistic missiles from Iran.
"We had the privilege of receiving 10 minutes of warning before we heard the boom. Eitan, my beloved son, has been in uncertainty and helplessness for 617 days - when at any moment he could hear the boom that would end his life in the depths of the tunnel in Gaza," she said.

According to her,"Eitan Shelly languished in a tunnel a few kilometers from the surrounding settlements, suffering from a serious skin disease and in a difficult mental state. With the outbreak of the war with Iran, the Shin Bet dramatically increased security around senior political, security, and intelligence officials in Israel – for fear of retaliatory actions by Iran and its proxies. This is a contingency plan that was prepared in advance by the Shin Bet for a moment of all-out conflict, and it includes a series of protection mechanisms, deployment, and operating instructions – some of which cannot be detailed.

The increase in security levels was also noted among senior IDF officials, particularly in light of the assassination of the top Iranian general staff and senior scientists in Iran – a move that led Tehran to threaten retaliatory actions. Meetings of the General Staff and the War Cabinet are currently being held under this set of stringent security restrictions.
The steps are based on information accumulated in recent years according to which Iran has attempted to recruit agents from within and outside Israel, for the purpose of collecting personal intelligence on senior officials – including current Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, senior IDF commanders (including a squadron commander), scientists with access to classified projects, and more.

The IDF spokesman said that in the opening strike on Iran, the head of the Armed Forces Intelligence Department, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' surface-to-surface missile system, and more than 20 military commanders of the Iranian regime were eliminated."The head of the Armed Forces Intelligence Department, Gholam-Raja Merhabi, was responsible for assessing the intelligence situation of the Iranian regime and was considered the most senior intelligence officer in Iran," the IDF spokesman said.

He added: "He took part in situation assessments, intelligence preparations, and managing attacks against Israel in the past year and before. In addition, Merhawi was a significant and highly respected senior figure within the Iranian regime and close to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, who was also eliminated."
The IDF spokesman also stated that the commander of the ballistic missile system in the Revolutionary Guards' air force, Mohammad Baqri,"was responsible for most of Iran's surface-to-surface missile and long-range cruise missile capabilities, which constitute a major threat to the State of Israel." According to him,"Baqri was in charge of managing the fire systems and took an active part in the military decision-making process in the Iranian attacks on Israel in 2024."

The IDF spokesman updated that nine senior scientists and experts in the Iranian nuclear project were eliminated in strikes in Iran. According to him,"They promoted the Iranian regime's plan to obtain nuclear weapons. The attack was made possible thanks to accurate intelligence collected by the intelligence branch. All of the scientists and experts who were eliminated were central centers of knowledge in the Iranian nuclear project, and had decades of cumulative experience in the development of nuclear weapons." The IDF spokesman emphasized that "their elimination constitutes a significant harm to the Iranian regime's ability to obtain weapons of mass destruction."

The IDF added that the assassinations were carried out in the first minutes of the operation, alongside the assassination of dozens of senior military commanders in the Iranian regime's security apparatus."The operation was preceded by joint planning and combat procedures for the Intelligence Branch and the Air Force, which enabled a precise and complex operation to be carried out thousands of kilometers from the territory of the State of Israel," the army said."The joint capability of the Intelligence Branch and the Air Force was built in recent months, through a technological and intelligence process that is unprecedented." Israel Aloni, 73, is one of those killed in the early morning Iranian missile strike in Rishon LeZion. The Iranian missile fell after an alarm was activated, but this time there was no advance warning from the Home Front Command - and Israel was killed outside the protected area. The direct hit by the Iranian missile, between two houses on the street, caused enormous damage: cars were completely destroyed, two people were killed and at least 20 others were injured.

The National Cyber Directorate announced that it had received numerous reports of phone calls from the Home Front Command number (073-3103014) - and clarified that this was a hoax. According to the Cyber Directorate, the call stated that emergency equipment should be prepared, and in some cases even a call was given to browse a specific website to receive instructions."The National Cyber Directorate clarifies that this is a hoax, and that the website mentioned in the call should not be browsed," it said."The Home Front Command does not contact citizens with automated phone calls, and does not initiate calls that include defensive instructions or links to websites - unless you have contacted it on your own initiative."
The National Cyber Command also stated that only messages and instructions received through official channels, such as the Home Front Command app and website, should be considered. Additionally, links should not be clicked on or websites mentioned in phone calls should not be browsed.

A three-month-old baby was rescued with her parents from the rubble of a house in Rishon LeZion that was hit early this morning by a missile barrage from Iran. The fire department said that her condition appears to be good. Chef Idan Chen said:"The impact was between two private houses that were completely destroyed, and the two dead are one from each house. It is a supreme happiness to hold the baby by the hand while I scream for them to be saved. I felt like I was in a delivery room with my children. The baby was given life by a great miracle."
Police Sergeant Aviv Saranga, who held the baby until her parents were rescued, said:"I transferred her to a safe place and to the MDA teams. It's a moment of happiness in a difficult and bloody scene."

A resident of the street that was directly hit by the Iranian barrage on Rishon LeZion, where two people were killed, described the moments of terror to Ynet:"We're going up, down, up, down from the MAMD. In the last barrage - a boom of an insane level. It got dark, we left the house - and it was completely dismantled. My wife is in anguish, my son, his wife, granddaughter and two more children - it's a great miracle. I've seen some difficult sights in life, but this is something unbelievable. The house is half on the floor, what do we do now?"

Another neighbor on the street testified, while busy cleaning up the extensive destruction in his home:"There was an alarm, we went down to the shelter and after five minutes there was an explosion. I went outside and saw two people in the rubble and I helped rescue them. They were standing there bleeding, and asked for help to get out."

Amit Peztal, who lives near the building that was directly hit last night, documented the extent of the destruction in her apartment from the blast, and said that at the moment of the impact she was in the protected space of the building, but the door of the shelter remained open."Suddenly there was a huge boom and a lot of dust entered the shelter, we heard the windows of the apartments shattering. After we got out of the shelter and went out onto the street, we saw the building that was hit," she said."All the apartments on the street were hit hard by the blast. We still got away relatively cheaply."

In contrast to the first two volleys, the IDF reported that a much smaller number of missiles were launched in the third volley - a few dozen. Some were intercepted. The IDF also reported that rescue and search forces are operating in several areas across the country where reports of casualties have been received.
Five were slightly injured in this barrage, and among the injured were two female MDA staff members who were injured by glass fragments after an MDA intensive care unit was hit by shrapnel in the Tel Aviv area. The two were treated on the spot and did not require evacuation to a hospital.
