Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that he spoke by phone with Donald Trump and discussed"solutions" to protect Ukraine.
"We discussed with the president the necessary measures and solutions to better protect people from Russian attacks and strengthen our positions," Zelensky wrote on the social network X.
According to Zelensky, Trump informed him about the meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
"It is important that we have such strong relations and that the Alliance countries are trying to increase defense spending," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President stated that he is ready to work as productively as possible to achieve peace.
"We agreed to stay in constant contact and continue to coordinate our actions. Thank you, Mr. President! Thank you, America!" added Zelensky.
Meanwhile, Trump's relationship with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is deteriorating. The US president has said he is disappointed with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, but he is not done with him yet.
The US leader made the remarks in an exclusive phone interview with the BBC. The president was asked if he trusted the Russian leader, and he replied:"I don't trust almost anyone."
Trump spent much of the interview expressing his frustration with the Russian dictator. He said four times that he thought a deal with Russia was possible. When asked by the BBC whether he had ended his relationship with Putin, the president replied:
"I'm disappointed in him, but I'm not done with him yet. But I am disappointed in him."
Asked how Trump would get Putin to "stop the bloodshed," the US president replied: "We're working on that."
"We have a great conversation. I say, 'Okay, I think we're close to the end,' and then he demolishes a building in Kyiv," the US president added.
