Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising his decisive role in facilitating the historic Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire deal.

"He saved lives," Manet said.

Praised Trump's "decisive leadership"

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, following U.S. efforts to end a brief border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia in July 2025.

"On behalf of the Cambodian people, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to President Trump for his decisive leadership and steadfast commitment to support the lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand," Manet said.

He described Trump’s involvement as “a model for peaceful conflict resolution,” saying his intervention “saved lives and prevented further escalation.”

The Cambodian leader added that the nomination reflects his country’s appreciation for Trump’s “constructive role” in promoting regional stability.

A"peace president"

Trump has repeatedly touted himself as a “peace president”, often citing his administration’s role in brokering or influencing international peace efforts.

Speaking at the KL Peace Accord signing ceremony on Oct.26, Trump said he has deployed “a lot of people” to resolve the conflict in Gaza.

He also expressed confidence in his ability to help end the ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, citing his close ties with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Asim Munir.

Earlier this year, he was unsuccessfully nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his claimed involvement in mediating the Israel-Gaza conflict, following support from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Machado then dedicated the prize to Trump.

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize nomination ends on Jan. 31.
