“Major General Wanchana” slams “Hun Manet” for wearing a political hat until forgetting the spirit of a soldier, questions humanity after hurting innocent people, and condemns Cambodia for releasing false news brazenly, reiterates the position of “shoot, shoot back, no cheating”
On July 28, 2025, Major General Wanchana Sawasdee, Director of the Office of Security Mission Coordination with the Internal Security Operations Command, Department of Military Operations, Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, gave an interview on the behavior of General Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, since the clash until now, because he was considered a soldier before, that General Hun Manet wears 2 hats, one is as Prime Minister and former Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army. Personally, I think that he has already thrown away the hat of being a soldier, while the hat of being a Prime Minister, which is a political hat, makes him not see the importance of the lives of innocent people.
Maj. Gen. Wanchana also stated that he wanted to question Gen. Hun Manet, who was also a soldier, about using long-range weapons to harm innocent Thai people, taking the lives of innocent people from their families and friends. Where has his humanity gone? While he was studying at a military preparatory school abroad, did not those things instill humanity in his heart, which is why he committed such a cruel act?
When asked if today there will be ceasefire negotiations, in practice, will it be able to stop immediately or will there be any conditions? Lt. Gen. Wanchana stated that he could not predict the results of the operation because it is beyond the decision of the army. Because it is a matter of the country's leaders, it is a matter between the states in negotiations. No matter what the results will be, the army is ready to carry out all operations as ordered by the state. But at this time, the army reserves the right to defend itself. If we are sincere with each other and both sides stop shooting, it will be over. But if we say we will stop shooting, in actual practice, there will still be shooting. We will not cheat either. If we shoot, we will shoot back.
Regarding the fake news that Thailand used chemical weapons to attack Cambodia, Lt. Gen. Wanchana replied that the official press conference of the spokesman of the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, which has uttered more than 90 percent of false information to the public and the international community, has reduced your credibility. And this will come back to you. Meanwhile, the public is asked to consume reliable news, especially from the media and from various news sources. As for news that is beneficial to Cambodia, please think carefully.
“In the past, there have been many lies, and blatant lies, such as saying that the Second Army Commander has died. This was so false that he had to come out and send a clip himself, or the use of biological weapons. These are all false stories. Even accusing Thailand of invading is not true. In fact, it was your country that invaded Thailand first.”
In addition, Pol. Lt. Gen. Wanchana also mentioned the news reporting by foreign news agencies, saying that famous foreign news agencies in the world, if they want clear and neutral news, use news sources from both countries to report information. However, it was found that at present, only one news source from one country is being used, which is unfair to Thailand.
In terms of communicating to foreign countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing its job well and would like to see the decision of the United Nations (UN) which ordered Thailand and Cambodia to discuss amongst themselves in the case where Cambodia submitted an urgent letter. This shows that the UN has seen that what Cambodia submitted is not credible, even though there are many reasons why Cambodia submitted them in order to have a secret investigation.
"They don't listen to the UN. They don't listen to you. It means the truth is starting to come out. We know the inside story of what kind of personality Cambodia has."
The reporter asked further, from the assessment of the situation, when will the clashes on the border end? Pol. Lt. Gen. Wanchana stated that it is a matter in the future that cannot be answered yet, but asked to follow the implementation. What I would like to leave with the Thai people is that they should see that the current conflict is not a conflict at the people level. The friendly relationship between the Thai people and the Cambodian people remains the same. Please distinguish and treat Cambodians in Thailand as friends, so as not to become a tool for the Cambodian side to provoke. In the future, when the context changes, negotiations may have a more appropriate way to talk and treat each other.
The reporter further reported that at approximately 4:50 p.m. Thailand time, there was a joint statement by Mr. Anwar Imbrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, in his capacity as the ASEAN Chair, along with Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in his capacity as Acting Prime Minister, and Gen. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, with the following joint conclusions:
1. An immediate and unconditional ceasefire, effective from 24:00 (local time) on July 28, 2025, is an important first step towards resolving the situation and restoring peace and stability.
2. Organizing an informal meeting among the commanders of the regional forces, including
- The 1st and 2nd Army Regions of Thailand and the 4th and 5th Army Regions of Cambodia will take place at 07.00 on 29 July 2025.
- There will then be a meeting with the Defense Attaches, hosted by the ASEAN Chair, if both parties mutually agree.
3. The holding of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on August 4, 2025, hosted by Cambodia
