The British are not sparing any energy as Donald Trump's state visit officially begins. The US president is given the largest military welcome ceremony in modern times.
It will be a full welcome package for Trump, who is coming on a historic second state visit in a short period of time.
King Charles and the royal family roll out the red carpet for the president as he arrives at Windsor Castle, with a carriage procession, gun salutes, a military air display and a luxurious banquet.
The castle has housed British royalty for nearly 1,000 years.
Britain says it will be the largest military ceremonial welcome in modern times.
– Love Charles
The American president, who is an open fan of royalty, has not hidden his joy at being the first elected politician to be invited on two state visits by a British monarch.
- I love King Charles, Trump wrote on Truth Social in February.
When he landed in the UK on Tuesday, he said he was delighted to be back in the island kingdom, which he calls a very special place.
Trade and customs
However, it is not just pomp and pageantry that is on the menu for Donald Trump. The visit is also considered important for Britain's hard-pressed Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who wants to cement the two countries' special relationship.
There are also hopes for deeper economic ties, billions of dollars in investment, and putting pressure on Trump over Ukraine. Microsoft and GSK have already announced major investments in the UK and the US, respectively.
– Basically, I'm here because of trade as well. They want to see if they can refine the trade deal a little bit. We made a deal, and it's a great deal. And I like to help them, Trump said as he left the White House on Tuesday.
