Russian forces on Tuesday, July 29, launched a missile attack on the training center of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (OSU) in Chernigov, resulting in human casualties among Ukrainian soldiers.

According to a post by the Army on Telegram, despite the security measures, losses could not be completely avoided. By 21:30 on the same day, the death of three soldiers was confirmed, while 18 were wounded.

Emergency services on the ground, an investigation has been launched

- Emergency services are working on the spot. All necessary medical assistance was provided to the wounded. We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased - it is stated in the announcement.

An internal investigation was launched, and a commission was formed to determine the cause and circumstances of the incident, which will be chaired by the chief of the OSU Military Police.

- If it is determined that the actions or omissions of the responsible persons contributed to the suffering of the soldiers, those individuals will be held accountable - added the Land Army.

Increased security measures after the attack

The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ground Forces introduced additional measures to protect personnel during Russian missile and air strikes on training centers.

A Russian drone previously spotted over the target area

Military analysts say that a Russian reconnaissance drone was spotted over the training zone before the attack itself. Experts point out that it is necessary to shoot down such drones in order to prevent similar attacks in the future.

Russian military bloggers claim that two ballistic missiles of the Iskander type were used in the attack, one of which allegedly had a cluster warhead. According to their claims, the attack caused heavy losses, although this has not yet been independently confirmed.

A video of the attack was released, but without confirmation of authenticity

The Russians have released a video they claim shows a drone attack and its aftermath. Kyiv Post could not confirm the location or time of the video. The Russian Ministry of Defense did not make an official comment on the attack until Wednesday morning.

Ukrainian expert: Warnings were ignored

Ukrainian expert on drones and anti-drone combat, Serhiy Beskrestnov"Flash", stated:

- The rocket hit the training ground in Honcharivsko. Most of the victims are those who ignored the safety protocols. Everyone knew the scout drone was above. Everyone heard the alarm. There were not hundreds or tens of dead, but, unfortunately, there were losses.

Attacks on military centers - more and more frequent

At 6:41 p.m., the Ukrainian Air Force reported a ballistic attack near the border between Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Residents of Chernihiv told the Kyiv Post that they heard loud but muffled explosions.
