"The Government meeting was convened this evening at 7:30 p.m., to approve the Government Decision on declaring August 7 a day of national mourning, in memory of the former President of Romania Ion Iliescu," the Executive announced.

The meeting of the Committee for organizing the state funeral in honor of the former president also concluded.

Former President Ion Iliescu died on Tuesday at the age of 95. The former president of Romania passed away after his organs failed. Iliescu was suffering from lung cancer and had been hospitalized for almost two months at the"Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu" Emergency Clinical Hospital in the capital, where he went at his request.
