BRASILIA – The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), is considering removing federal deputies Marcos Pollon (PL-MS), Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP) and Zé Trovão (PL-SC) for six months, in addition to issuing a warning to other parliamentarians who participated in the riot that tried to impede the work of the plenary of the House.
Between this Thursday, the 7th, and this Friday, the 8th, Motta received the names of the main rioters and is examining a letter sent by PT, PSB and PSOL, which requests the suspension of five parliamentarians .
In addition to those already mentioned, these three parties also requested the precautionary suspension and investigation of the case by the Ethics Council of Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS) and Júlia Zanatta (PL-SC). Van Hattem is still undergoing an evaluation for precautionary removal.
Motta will still undergo a final analysis of the possibilities. He is expected to submit a list to the Chamber's Ethics Committee this Friday.
Motta assesses the occupation as a 'sad episode' and indicates that there will be punishment
In an interview with CNN Brasil, Motta stated that the occupation of the Board was a"sad episode" that "we had never experienced before." The congressman reiterated that no agendas were negotiated to restore normality.
"We will hold a Board meeting today to decide on punishment for parliamentarians who overstepped their bounds," he said on Friday, adding that the requests will be forwarded to the Ethics Council.
The Speaker of the House advocated for punishment for the Bolsonaro supporters who occupied his seat on the Board."We have to be pedagogical, because what happened was serious. We cannot agree, even to prevent this from happening again," he said.
The Speaker of the House reiterated that the war was won without the need for shooting."Many people mistake our action for something that could have been more forceful, that we could have used force, and I'm certain I made the right decision," he stated. Motta also emphasized that he would never have used physical force in this case, as it was a movement of parliamentarians and not a movement that was invading the House.
The parliamentarian explained that he was not in Brasília when the opposition's action began, as he had a prior agenda in Paraíba, but he followed the developments during Tuesday and as soon as he arrived in the federal capital he began talking with the parties to build the"best possible solution".
The Speaker of the House said that the opposition movement occurred amid an atypical scenario in the country, with a crisis at various points in the institutional organization, a crisis between the branches of government, and a challenging international scenario.
Deputies resisted ending riot
As Estadão reported, Pollon was the last one standing and was the one who had to give up his seat as Speaker of the House for Motta to resume work. Days earlier, he called the Speaker of the House"shit" and "a short guy who's only five feet tall."
In their complaint, the left-wing parties claim that Zé Trovão attempted to physically prevent Motta from returning to the Board of Directors."Freedom of parliamentary expression does not encompass the right to physically impede the legitimate exercise of public office," the document states.
Bilynskyj, according to the representation, “prevented the installation of the plenary session, restricted the right of other parliamentarians to speak and interrupted the constitutional functioning of the House.”
