Governors expected to run for President of the Republic in 2026 reacted to the decision of the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), which convicted former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) by 4 to 1, this Thursday, 11, for five crimes, including that of coup d'état.

Tarcísio once again aligned himself with radical Bolsonarism and attacked the Supreme Court."History will dismantle these narratives, and justice will still prevail. Strength, President. We will continue to stand by your side," he wrote Thursday night.

Recently, the governor had called Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the rapporteur of the case, a “tyrant” during a demonstration on Avenida Paulista.

Another candidate being considered for the 2026 elections, Paraná Governor Ratinho Jr. (PSD), advocated political"pacification" and criticized what he called the persecution of Bolsonaro."Brazil needs to be pacified, and this also involves strengthening our institutions, which must operate with balance and be guided by the democratic rule of law. The Brazilian people cannot be held hostage by dogma. In fact, the population is not happy with the persecution of a former president," he stated.

He added that "Brazil needs to turn the page on hatred, backwardness, and fighting and write a new era" and declared solidarity with Bolsonaro and his family.

Minas Gerais Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) also attacked the Supreme Court's decision."Justice or Inquisition? Bolsonaro's conviction by the Supreme Court's First Chamber exacerbates the country's divisions, and that's not what we need," he said in a social media post.

Goiás Governor Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil) stated that the decision of the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) confirmed a result that he said was already "anticipated." "Once again, I deeply regret the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro by the Supreme Federal Court. I say 'once again' because this conviction had already been, in a way, anticipated: first, when he was denied the right to publicly defend himself; then, when even his right to come and go was restricted," he stated in a statement.

Caiado argued that the trial should take place in the Court's plenary, as Minister Luiz Fux stated in his vote,"where the entirety could be expressed and the different interpretations of the case would be duly debated."

He reiterated his support for amnesty for all those convicted of the January 8th attacks, promising that, if elected president, he will sign the measure on his first day in office."Only in this way can we achieve the peace necessary to build a government of conciliation, focused on the future, dedicated to addressing the real problems of Brazilians and promoting true progress for our people," he said.
