“Bhumtham” reads a government statement, criticizing Cambodia for violating the ceasefire agreement, saying that the Thai military must respond decisively, assigning all armed forces to maintain forces to protect sovereignty and the lives of the people, and protesting to the ASEAN Chair, the United States, and China.

At approximately 1:25 p.m. on July 29, 2025, Mr. Bhumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in his capacity as Acting Prime Minister, along with Mr. Maris Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Nattaphong Nakphanit, Deputy Minister of Interior, and Dr. Prommin Lertsuridej, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, held a press conference. They read the government statement, which read as follows:

The Thai government is sincere and has made every effort to end the conflict situation along the Thai-Cambodian border as quickly as possible. Negotiations have led to a ceasefire agreement between both sides, taking into account the interests of the people and the sovereignty of the country as the most important priority, including the lives and property of the people and the nation's soldiers.  All of this is the common hope of the international community to return peace to the people of both countries. The Thai government respects the results of the discussions in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and strictly adheres to the ceasefire as jointly announced.

However, it has been revealed that the Cambodian forces have violated the ceasefire agreement by using weapons against Thai forces in many areas, forcing the Thai soldiers to respond decisively and appropriately to protect the sovereignty and lives of innocent people. At the same time, the government has protested to the ASEAN Chair, the United States, and the People's Republic of China, who were witnesses to the negotiations, to make them aware that the violation of this agreement is clearly due to Cambodia's dishonesty and insincerity.

Current situation The government has assigned all armed forces to maintain their forces to fully preserve the sovereignty and safety of our people and will not allow Thai sovereignty to be violated under any circumstances. However, this morning, there were talks between the army commanders of both countries to discuss ways to resolve the problem. At the same time, we are ready to enter into a higher-level negotiation process as agreed in order to end the violence and prevent further losses for both civilians and military personnel. We are confident that the Thai government's sincere implementation of international principles, adhering to humanity and human rights, will be evident to the international community and will serve as an important foundation in the fight to prove the facts at various stages after the ceasefire is achieved.

The public is urged to monitor the situation through official channels. The government has assigned the Ministry of Interior and relevant agencies to expedite care for affected people along the border, particularly those evacuating their hometowns. Please await confirmation from the government. The government reiterates that it has instructed local agencies to provide full assistance to residents in evacuation centers.

“The government would like to pay tribute to the heroism of the brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives and blood to protect the sovereignty of the country and ensure the safety of the people.”

Finally, we urge our fellow citizens not to fall prey to Cambodia's fake news or political games, which seek to create internal divisions between the opposing sides.  The Thai team reaffirms that they will perform their duties to the best of their ability to protect the interests of the nation and its citizens.
