Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested on suspicion of killing Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and influencer killed on Wednesday at a Utah university. US President Donald Trump—and Kirk's personal friend—revealed that a suspect had been arrested.

Robinson, 22, lives with his family in St. George, Utah, about 250 miles from the scene of the murder, and had been on the run since the day of the murder. According to authorities, he acted alone:"We don't expect any further arrests. He acted alone." But the investigation continues.

According to State Governor Spencer Cox, Robinson confessed to a family friend, a pastor, with whom his father had contacted after seeing the images released by the FBI. The boy, whom his father had confronted after seeing the photos, initially refused to turn himself in, but later changed his mind. Cox said the boy's family turned him over to the authorities. Robinson later confessed to the FBI as well.

Tyler Robinson had written a few sentences on the bullets, including:"Bella ciao," "Hey fascist, take this," and "If you read this, you're gay," LMAO. (LMAO stands for"Laughing my ass off.") An empty cartridge and three other bullets were found in the rifle used to kill Kirk.

Cox said investigators also interviewed Robinson's roommate, who showed them messages between him and an account under the name Tyler on the Discord messaging app.

In the messages, Tyler stated the need to retrieve a rifle from a drop-off point, leave it in a bush, monitor the area where the rifle had been left, and keep it wrapped in a towel. The messages, he added, also mentioned engraving bullets, a scope, and the rifle's uniqueness.

Robinson, according to Cox, had changed clothes, putting on the black ones he was seen wearing on camera on the roof where he fired the shots. When he was arrested, he was wearing the same clothes he was seen wearing on camera before firing the shots.

Robinson's mother, on her Facebook profile, described her son as a brilliant student and posted a video of Tyler reading the letter announcing he had been awarded a prestigious $32,000 national scholarship to Utah State University. Robinson was scheduled to study there for a semester, but was not currently enrolled.

Robinson has two younger brothers; his parents have been married for about 25 years.

I thank the law enforcement officers who quickly arrested the suspect, and I thank Tyler Robinson's family who did the right thing by bringing him to law enforcement, Cox said. This was a terrible day for our country and for the state of Utah, but we have put an end to this sad page, he added.

It's unclear at this time what motivated Kirk's murder, but a Robinson family member, speaking to authorities, said Tyler had become more interested in politics lately and was speaking negatively about Kirk. According to the killer, Kirk was filled with hatred and spread hatred.
